Dogues seem to often end up in the media, in good ways ofcourse, and are being used for advertising in television and print.

On this page I will be collecting and featuring as much dogue media material as I can find.

Pet of the Year 2004

Jo Powell sent some pictures of her girl Tigger into the Sunday Telegraph.

The unusual photos of Tigger, one half asleep with her tooth sticking out, and the other of her asleep in the arms of Abby the Rotweiller, appeared in the Pet of the Year supplement in the issue on Sunday the 11th of April 2004.

Tigger is a re-homed Dogue de Bordeaux.  Her previous owners were unable to keep her any longer.  Jo and her husband adopted Tigger after the death of their Bull Terrier.

Amedange Kennels

Vicki Cameron was interviewed and photographed with her female Dogue de Bordeaux, Targi, by a local newspaper.

Vicki and her husband Mark are Amedange Kennels in Mackay, Queensland.

This article was part of a feature that the newspaper did when they published results from a Newspoll national survey.  One result showed that 60% of women surveyed said that dogs were more affectionate than men, and more than 90% said they enjoyed the companionship and unconditional love that their dog provided.

But we already knew that, didn’t we ladies !  LOL

Vogue's Dogue fight

June 11, 2004From the Sydney Morning Herald “Spike” Column

When it comes to trademark stoushes, this probably rates as one of the more bizarre.  For nearly five years a small dog accessories boutique in Woollahra called Dogue has been embroiled in a battle over its name with the global magazine juggernaut Conde Nast - which owns the Vogue glamour titles.

Dogue's owner, Simone Kingston, first lodged an application to trademark the name in 1999. Conde Nast's parent company, Advance Publishing in New York, opposed the move, saying consumers could confuse the tiny upmarket puppy accessories business with its global fashion glossy.

However, Kingston claimed victory yesterday after Advance failed to oppose the pending trademark before the cut-off time, meaning Dogue could be registered under the contested name.

Ironically, Australian Vogue magazine is licensed to local publishers and management here, knew nothing about the long-running dispute when SMH Spike called yesterday. Kingston said she had even had requests to do photoshoots by Vogue Australia during the bitter battle. "The local people had no idea they were suing us. It was ridiculous," she said.

"We like to describe Dogue as canine couture. I've been fighting this for five years. I'm a very determined Taurean woman ... I guess they didn't count on that. We wanted a French-sounding name and found a dog called Dogue De Bordeaux which inspired the name. That's all it was."

I would also like to personally thank Simone from Dogue for her most generous donation of a fantastic dog toy hamper to the Tsunami Fundraiser show.

The Dogue de Bordeaux in the Media

In an advert for Chuppa Chups, a woman with a cat enters the waiting room of a veterinary clinic.  All the other owners are men with their dogs, one of which is a Dogue de Bordeaux, who looks up and lick his lips when the woman takes out a Chuppa Chup lollipop to suck on.

Many of you may have already seen the TV advertising for Mentos Cool Chews.

A TV advertisement for a telephone company is being shot in Rome featuring the glamorous movie star, Sophia Loren, and a Dogue de Bordeaux.

A latest advert for Optimum dog food also features a Dogue.

In recent years, we have seen Dogues in advertising even from some of our own Australian kennels.

Panasonic, Praise Mayonnaise, Pedigree Dog Food and Olympus have featured the DDB.

Owner, Leigh Wilson, hopes her pouty pooch will take out the beauty pageant title of Miss Purina at the Jog the Dog day.

Nicole, a 4 yr old Dogue de Bordeaux, has been out every morning training with Leigh - going for walks to keep in shape and to sharpen up on obedience.

Nicole certainly fits the criteria for the cutest canine: entrants must be speyed, between 2 and 5 years old, with a winning smile and fabulous personality.  Brains help, but are not essential, says Jog the Dog organiser Pip Flemming, who adds: “This is a totally sexist and politically incorrect competition”.

Large litter for Joop

With a normal litter averaging around 7 puppies, having 18 puppies is probably one in a million.  Joop needed help by way of a surrogate mum to help feed her pups.

Isabella Coloured Dogue de Bordeaux

The light Isabella coloured dogue is not very common and many people have not seen one or a photograph of one.

Opinions of the colour can vary from breeder to breeder, it is very much a personal preference.  But the standard does state it as an acceptable colour, however the darker shades of red seem to be more common and popular.  I personally find the colour fascinating.

Here are three examples of the Isabella colour.

The first 2 photos at the top  are of Billy, from Kris at DDB Rescue in America, www.spoiltdogues.com

Thanks to End of the Road Kennels (www.endoftheroadkennels.com) for the photo of their puppy on the top right, Ghost, which was posted on the DDB Forum.

And the photo on the bottom right is of a lovely Isabella girl here in Australia, her name is Chardy.
